Our Band Could Be Your Life
Procrastination is over. Some thanks and some news from the front.
Thanks to those who supported YONL and Friends @ Festival Terres Neuves: electrical mood and great gigs for our birthday party!
The tour with thisquietamry this fall was a blast. Thank you. Thanks to Nico and Le Réveil des Tropiques, the Aïnu troopers, everybody @ Magasin 4, Timo @ Denovali Festival, Heirs, Jaap and the great Venlo team. Eric we miss you.
This summer YONL was fired from its rehearsal place. The situation lasted until this week. No need to say, it delayed the band’s creative process. But it didn’t stop us recording a demo of the forthcoming album. It also didn’t stop us touring a bit.
But, time passing by, it finally started to efficiently paralyze the band, logistically speaking. Anyway YONL remained creative and worked on the next album cover concept. A great illustrator is now working on it. More info soon.
We’re also polishing the forthcoming “Vampyr” LP. MUSICFEARSATAN will release it within a few months. The premiere happened in Bordeaux during Spring 2010. What we think would be a one shot experience soon transformed itself into a two years reverie trip around Europe. YONL played “Vampyr” for the last time in Bordeaux, at Krakatoa, in February 2012. The performance was a recorded one and gave birth to this LP.
Facing C. T. Dreyer’s “Vampyr” was always a fragile exercise and sometimes took the form of a metanoia. It marked us both as a band and as persons. This recording should be considered as a sonic reverberation of Dreyer’s obsession for beauty, death, love, vengeance, sin, forgiveness, evil, redemption and faith.
A few days ago, we found a new place for YONL: we can now work and compose again. It’s time to reanimate the beast and fix the amps!
We still have a lot of work ahead. If we were okay with the paths opened by our “summer demo”, we soon realized it wasn’t enough. Not that the material was finally not so good. No. Rather a need to go further in our sublimation process. Be it in matter of textures, writing, arrangements or recording techniques. Once again, the mighty Cyrille Gachet will be the Master of Ceremony.
We hope initiating the recording process around March/April 2013. But before: sweat, blood and doubts! 2013 should be a big year for YONL: along the release of the third album, an earthshaking split LP should arise…
Meanwhile, two tracks from the Mars Red Sky/Year Of No Light split EP (including the collaborative track “White Rune/Green Totem”) are available on Bandcamp. Enjoy: http://yearofnolight.bandcamp.com/album/split-w-mars-red-sky
